Frequently Asked Interview Questions - 5 Most Common Interview Questions Answers
Frequently Asked Interview Questions - 5 Most Common Interview Questions AnswersFrequently Asked Interview Questions - 5 Most Common Interview Questions AnswersThese tips will help you plan the right responses to the fruchtwein frequently asked interview questions.Almost all interview questions asked by companies are structured in the same way. Yet, many job applicants fail to take advantage of this well-known fact and prepare beforehand. We understand that no amount of preparation will mimic the very real moment where a panel of suited-up strangers is eyeballing you dubiously. Nevertheless, if you know enough about the organization you have applied to and fully prepared yourself, the interview shouldnt be a challenging part of the process. Here are some of the most common questions asked in interviews and the best ways to answer them.1. Tell us about yourself? This is a difficult question in disguise. Employers are usually looking for answers that highlight your skills and personali ty traits. So the key is to align your answer with the job description. The idea is to give a pitch . Make your answer concise and compelling. You may include your skills, experiences and/or relevant personality traits. Here is an exampleWell, I am currently a freelance photographer for XYZCompany. In the past year I have been assigned jobs for X many top paying clients including Names. I also love to paint or sketch during my free time. I wanted to turn my passions into a fulltime, stable career which is why I applied here company name2. What are your strengths? You are going to want to boast when this question is asked. The most difficult component of this question is the degree of modesty in your answer. Its best to exude confidence in this answer and include only those strengths that are relevant to the position at hand. This may include social skills, communication skills, leadership skills, etc. Stick to only 2-3 strengths and elaborate with solid examples. For exampleI am a pr ofessional salesperson with over 6 years experience in retail sales. I am very persuasive and great with people. I exceed my sales target every time. Not a single year went by when I didnt receive a bonus.3. What are your weaknesses? This, for many, is the most dreaded question. Highlighting your weaknesses while you are trying to give out a positive impression is paradoxical. Think of something that has been your weakness for a long time but you are currently trying to improve on. Try not to make it a skill that is compulsory for the job at hand. For exampleProcrastination was a problem for me for a very long time. However, recently I downloaded a program that helped overcome this problem with the help of scheduling. Now, I try to prepare for everything in advance.4. Why do you want this job? We hate to say this, but you cant always be honest and upfront about all the reasons for applying for the job. Employers want to hear something that benefits both you and them. So, even if y ou applied because of the compensation package, the prestige of the company, or anything that entirely benefits you, set it aside and come up with something that benefits both parties. Heres an exampleThis job is a perfect fit with my goals and career. I have had enough experience in the creative fields and now I am really enthusiastic about job5. Why should we hire you? Again this question will require a pitch delivering answer that will combine the answer of the first question (tell me about yourself) and the second (what are your strengths). This is the crux of all questions and wont necessarily be asked in those exact words. Overall, you have to convince your interviewer thatYour experience, skills, and personality fit the jobYou have the ability to deliver outstanding work in that areaYou stand out of the crowd

Heres how to plan your honeymoon on a budget
Heres how to plan your honeymoon on a budgetHeres how to plan your honeymoon on a budgetIm on my honeymoon right now Well, Im actually in the air or in an airport somewhere. We left DC late last night and are en route to Thailand for a three-week honeymoon adventure You can keep track of what were up to by following my Instagram. Were making the most of this long honeymoon, but I also wanted to make koranvers that we found budget options where we could.Based on my own experience, heres how you can plan a great honeymoon, even if youre on a strict budget.Start planning earlyWe decided where we wanted to go on our honeymoon at least a year ago. This gave us a lot of time to plan and save for our trip. Its unlikely that you could just up and go to Thailand for three weeks if you havent been planning and saving for a while. (Unless, of course, you keep a full travel savings fund at all times.) So make your decision and start planning early. Youll have more time to save, and youll have mo re time to find affordable deals for travel and lodging.Save, save, saveI know youre probably saving everything you have right now in order to pay for your wedding. However, its important to remember that youll want to save up for your honeymoon too Put a monthly amount aside, or save any extra money that you get (bonuses, tax refunds, or other windfalls). You may also want to create a honeymoon fund for your wedding registry. There are lots of options out there through Zola, HoneyFund, and other platforms.Take advantage of rewards programsI dont usually recommend points churning to my clients, because rewards credit cards have high interest rates that overrule any rewards you get. However, if you trust yourself to pay off your credit cards in full every month, rewards programs can be incredibly helpful. If you are loyal to certain airlines or hotel chains, getting their credit cards might be a good idea. TheKeep track of dealsOnce we knew where we wanted to go, it was time to start tracking good deals. The most expensive part of our honeymoon was the flight to Thailand and back, so I wanted to make sure we were getting the best deal. I used platforms like Airfarewatchdog, The Flight Deal, and Google Flights to save my desired route and get email alerts whenever there was a good price. This is how I was able to landsee when an affordable Turkish Airlines flight was available and book it before it changed.Go somewhere closeYes, were en route to Thailand, but you dont have to travel to the other side of the world for your honeymoon. My parents went to Disney World for their honeymoon. Of course, this was in the 1980s when Disney World was a lot cheaper, but even now it would likely be a lot cheaper than Thailand. So if youre not all that interested in traveling to a faraway land, you can pick a place thats closer, easier to get to, and much more affordable.DelayMore and more of my friends are delaying their honeymoon for six months or a year. Thats a great way t o recoup some of the money you spent on your wedding and give you time to save up for your honeymoon. That way, you can make sure youre having the honeymoon you really want without sacrificing your financial wellness. If you really want to get away, but cant afford the big trip just yet, you could take a mini-moon and go somewhere more affordable for a few days after the wedding. As of late, Ive seen my friends visit Miami, Asheville, and Shenandoah National Park.Thisarticlewas originally published onMaggieGermano.com.

How to Spot a Bad Boss While Job Searching
How to Spot a Bad Boss While Job SearchingHow to Spot a Bad Boss While Job Searching6There are so many things to be concerned about while youre looking for a job. When will you find a job? Are you qualified enough for the position once you find it? Will you be able to make a good first impression? Do you know how to answer all those tricky job interview questions? Theres one question that many job seekers dont think about, but its a crucial one how can you spot a schwimmbad boss while job searching?Even if you find a job that looks like it could be a good fit for you, youre qualified for the position, you made a great first impression, and you were able to answer all of those strange job interview questions, a bad boss can make that once-fabulous job a living hell. Luckily, you dont have to wait until youre hired to realize that your boss is a creep. Here are a few ways to spot a bad boss while youre job searching. Before the job interview. If you thought that you had to wait until meet ing your potential boss in person to determine if hes going to be a bad boss, think again. There are telltale clues that you can pick up on even before you face off in person. For example, how does he behave in email exchanges? Is he professional or impersonal? Is he friendly- or worse, overly friendly and crossing personal boundaries? Or maybe hes disorganized and doesnt respond to emails for a few days, leaving you wondering if you did or said something to offend him. Your gut instinct will let you know if something is amiss, so be sure to keep your eyes open for signs.During the job interview. If you already had an odd feeling about your prospective boss before meeting him, sitting down across from him during a job interview can confirm what youve been feeling all along. The first clue is his office. Is it super messy, with papers strewn everywhere? Thats a sign of leid only a cluttered office, but a cluttered mind as well. Is he unprofessional, rude, or just downright mean and co ndescending? Its important to remember that the job interview is the opportunity for not only you to be on your best behavior, but your boss as well. (Thats why, in many ways, a job interview is like a first date.) If your boss feels comfortable enough to act like a jerk in front of you during the job interview, theres a very good chance that he will continue being one (or worse) after youre hired. After the job interview. After youve finished with your interview, you should see if you can confirm your sinking suspicions about your boss-to-be. As you walk through the hallways on your way out, try to pick up on the offices vibe. Does the atmosphere seem light, with colleagues laughing and talking with each other? Or is it like a tomb, with everyone sitting silently at their desks? Seeing how the office functions can speak volumes about how your boss is as a manager. And if youre interviewing for a telecommuting position, you can ask to speak with members of the kollektiv to see if you c an glean any inside intel as to how the person is as a manager. In fact, Glassdoor has great anonymous employee reviews for larger companies so you can get a sense for what the companys management structure is like in general, including reviews of the CEO. It makes all the difference in realizing that you dont want the job after all.Its easy to overlook a potentially bad boss when youre trying to find a job. But if you gloss over potential clues into his bad character, you may end up accepting a position that youll later have to turn down. That can cause you to waste precious money and time. And keep in mind the old expression a leopard (or in this case, a bad boss) cant change its spots.Readers, have you ever experienced signs that a boss was bad before or during a job interview? What happened? Did you wind up accepting the job- or not? Let us know in the comments section below

8 highly successful people on the most important lessons learned
8 highly successful people on the most important lessons learned8 highly successful people on the most important lessons learnedSince taking over as host of Business Insiders podcast Success How I Did It in late February, Ive had conversations with leaders across a variety of fields about what they consider the most important lessons theyve learned. Ive spoken to everyone from the CEO of Vimeo to the president of Planned Parenthood to a NASA astronaut who spent a year in space. These lessons can come from a piece of advice, like what Vimeo CEO Anjali Suds fatzu sich taught her, or from a personal insight, as what Facebook cofounder Chris Hughes realized from a $25 million mistake. If you like what you read, check out the full episodes and subscribe wherever you get podcasts.Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud learned to seek opportunities out of her comfort zoneSud said that her father, an entrepreneur who immigrated to Flint, Michigan from India, told her that she should live outside of her comfort zone. She said that its guided her throughout her life.Heres SudLeaving home at 14, going to Andover, where I didnt know really anything, I welches definitely outside my comfort zone then. In many of the roles Ive had at Amazon and certainly at Vimeo, Ive been in situations where it welchesnt like I had the playbook and I knew exactly what to do.I think that when you are pushed outside of your comfort zone, you get off that learning curve so much faster and you develop as a leader so much faster.X Prize Foundation founder Peter Diamandis learned the importance of focusing his attentionDiamandis is one of those people with a nearly limitless drive to work toward his goals - and so a challenge for him, when he welches younger, welches elend knowing how to focus that energy. His parents wanted him to become a doctor, but he wanted to study space. His compromise? Getting his masters in aerospace science from MIT and his MD from Harvard. But even as a medical student, he was involved in s pace organizations on the side. His balancing act was too much, even for someone who never stopped. His dean called him into his office one day.And my dean was like, Peter, what are you doing? Youre a bright kid. Your interns are telling me youre not paying attention, youre not focusing. Do you want to graduate? Diamandis told us. Im breaking down in tears right now, and Im saying, Yes, I want to graduate. I promised my parents I would graduate. And I fessed up on everything that was going on with ISU and my launch company, International MicroSpace. And I said, Were doing engine development tasks and all of this. And he goes, OK, all right, heres the verstndigung im strafverfahren If you pass part two of the boards, and you promise never to practice medicine, Ill let you graduate. So he kept his end of the bargain, and I kept mineIt was a turning point in my life, because I was able to be done with that obligation.Retired NASA astronaut Scott Kelly learned that performing at a high l evel is built on a foundation of constant effortKelly and his identical twin brother Mark - also a retired astronaut - were different in one key way as kids. Kelly simply did not care about school. He was able to get enough work done that he made it to the State University of New York Maritime College. By that point, he had decided that he wanted to become an astronaut, inspired to do so after reading Tim Wolfes book about the subject, The Right Stuff. He decided that if he would one day achieve that goal, he would have to excel at school to have even a remote shot at accomplishing it. Determined, he devoted hours every day to studying, and, unsurprisingly, his poor grades began to rise. But his attention began to wander again. As he writes in his memoir Endurance, there was one weekend where he was ready to head out to a big party at Rutgers when he had a phone call with his brother. When he mentioned that he had his first calculus exam in a few days but was going to party first, Ma rk snapped at him for losing track of his goal. Are you out of your goddamn mind? he remembered Mark telling him. Youre in school. You need to absolutely ace this exam, and everything else, if you want to get caught up.Kelly decided to take his brothers advice, and things, of course, worked out. But he remembers it as a moment where his discipline could have been shaken forever.Media mogul Tina Brown learned that taking care of your team is the way to foster your own successAs the editor of Vanity Fair and the New Yorker, and as the founding editor of the Daily Beast, Brown left an indelible mark on American media. She told us that her successes were only possible because she learned early in her career not only how to create and rely on excellent teams, but to keep them loyal.Really nurture talent - I mean, talents the key to it all, she said. You have to handle people properly. You need to find them, but then youve got to keep them with you. The way you keep them with you is by b eing genuinely engaged with people.Im always shocked, frankly, at how editors really dont pay much attention to the writers at all. Writers will write for somebody for very little money, as they did for me at the Beast, if they get a response. If they get a note back saying Fantastic piece. Can you just make the top this, and I suggest you change the middle to this? Boom, they love it. They want response, and they want to feel that theyve found a home.Edible Arrangements founder Tariq Farid learned to not engage with those who wanted to see him failFarid moved to Connecticut from Pakistan when he was 13, and his family had very little money. The combination of having a different ethnicity and economic background from other kids in the neighborhood led to some bullying - but even as he explained it to us, he said he didnt want to overplay it, because he learned to dismiss it and focus on the neighbors that welcomed his family and supported their flower shop.It was useful to him as a n adult, when there was an online conspiracy theory about Farid sending his foundations money to the Islamic paramilitary group Hamas, an accusation the Anti-Defamation League publicly stated was baseless.Ive faced these kind of remarks and discriminatory things before, Farid told us. But when you measure that to the success youve gotten on the other side, its insignificant. If you want to focus on pessimism, if people want to focus on negativity, then you get negativity and you only stay within negativity. But if you want to focus on what you can do not only to better yourself but to better your community and to better the people around you, then you will do that.Facebook cofounder Chris Hughes learned how to balance ambition with realityHughes helped his Harvard roommate Mark Zuckerberg develop Facebook in its early years, and it made him unexpectedly rich. In 2012, he used some of his fortune to buy the struggling magazine The New Republic.Hughes wanted to make the highbrow libera l journal a mainstream success, and his efforts to do so resulted in $25 million spent over four years and the loss of most of his editorial staff, in protest of his changes. When we spoke with Hughes, he explained that while he stands by some of the changes he made, he regrets that he went in guns blazing. Hes taken what hes learned to his current venture, the Economic Security Project.Thats why I didnt start an organization to campaign for UBI right off the bat, he said, referring to Universal Basic Income, a system in which every citizen receives a guaranteed income regardless of their circumstances. Instead, Hughes organization is advocating for a guaranteed income of a monthly $500 sent to working Americans making under $50,000. It is certainly quite ambitious, but one Hughes doesnt see as impossible, and he is willing to support policies that gradually ease into it.As he wrote in his book Fair Shot, his failure at the New Republic taught him that, just because an idea is bold d oes not mean that the means to achieve it need be. A prosaic and incremental approach can be a more effective way to put poetic ideals into practice.Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards learned to not second-guess herself when an intimidating opportunity aroseRichards is in her last year as the head of the womens health organization Planned Parenthood, and shes brought it back to its movement roots. Throughout her career, in fact, shes never shied away from defending causes she believes in, regardless of the oppositions power or aggression. She told us her model has always been her late mother, former Texas governor Ann Richards. She spent a lot of years just doing what society expected her, Richards told us. She was just to raise kids, be a perfect wife, throw the perfect dinner party, and she did that for several years. And it wasnt until she had the chance to break out and do what she wanted to do for her - I think she was always regretful that she, you know, missed some time. You know, she let social convention get in the way.So her best advice was, This is the only life you have, so do it. And whatever it is, never turn down a new opportunity. And, you know, she used to say when I was worried about taking a new job - or to other women who would say, You know, Im not sure if Im qualified - she said, Look. Whats the worst thing that could happen? And I think thats really good advice when youre thinking about starting a new business or changing jobs. Its just, whats the worst thing that can happen, because usually, once you can imagine that, its not that bad.Flatiron Health CEO Nat Turner learned that following a clearly defined mission brings out the best work in himself and his teamNat Turner was only 24 years old when he sold his first company for $80 million, eight years ago. It was a deal with Google that got him and his cofounder Zach Weinberg some capital and a management job at Google New York office in exchange for their ad platform, Invit e Media. But it took all of one day for them to feel bored and unsatisfied. And we always say, our obituary one day, when we die We dont want to say we optimized banner ads online, Turner told us.Inspiration struck when Turner considered a question from his cousin, whose seven-year-old son was still fighting a battle with leukemia that hed eventually win. Turners cousin couldnt figure out why it was so difficult to find data on childhood leukemia treatments, considering that it seemed like a problem that could easily be solved by tech.Turner and Weinberg decided to create the software that would do that, and more, which led to the creation of Flatiron Health in 2012. Today the company is valued at over $2 billion, and Turner cant imagine ever leading a company that doesnt have a purpose beyond making money.Turner explained that the companys mission isnt just pushing him and Weinberg to work harder. Everythings easier, he said. When you have passion for what youre doing, he explained, top talent and investors are drawn to your company. This article first appeared on Business Insider.

Gang Activity in the U.S. Military
Gang Activity in the U.S. MilitaryGang Activity in the U.S. MilitaryAccording to an FBI report,Gang Activity in the U.S. Armed Forces Increasing, dated January 12, 2007,members of nearly every major street gangartart have been identified on both domestic and international military installations. Members of nearly every major street gang, including the Bloods, Crips, Black Disciples, Gangster Disciples, Hells Angels, Latin Kings, The 18th Street Gang, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), Mexican Mafia, Nortenos, Surenos, Vice Lords, and various white supremacist groups, have been documented on military installations. Although fruchtwein prevalent in the Army, the Army Reserves, and the National Guard, gang activity is pervasive throughout all branches of the military and across most ranksbut is most common among the junior enlisted ranks, according to the report. The extent of gang presence in the armed tafelgeschirrs is often difficult to determine since many enlisted gang members conceal their gang affiliation and military authorities may not recognize gang affiliation or may be inclined not to report such incidences. Since 2004, the FBI and El Paso Police Departmentidentified over 40 military-affiliated Folk Nation gang members stationed at the Fort Bliss Army Installation in Texas who were involved in drug distribution, robberies, assaults, weapons offenses, and a homicide, both on and off the installation.Fort Hood, Texas, Army Installation officials have identified nearly 40 gang members on cousine since 2003. Military-affiliated Gangster Disciple members at Fort Hood have been responsible for robberies, assaults, theft, and burglaries on and off base. Nearly 130 gang and extremist group members have been identified on the Fort Lewis, Washington, Army Installation since 2005. These gang members are believed to be responsible for many of the criminal misconduct instances reported on base. The FBI reports that accurate data reflecting gang-related instances occurring o n military installations is limited since the military is not required to report criminal offense statistics occurring on post to the ?FBI. Consequently, military data reflecting criminal instances are not incorporated into the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). Why Gang Members Join the Military The FBI believes that gang members may enlist in the military to escape their current environment or gang lifestyle. Some gang members may also enlist to receive weapons, combat, and convoy support training to obtain access to weapons and explosives or as an alternative to incarceration. Upon discharge, they may employ their military training against law enforcement officials and rival gang members. Such military training could ultimately result in mora organized, sophisticated, and deadly gangs, as well as an increase in deadly assaults on law enforcement officers. In May 2005 an Army recruit and suspected Crip member was assigned to the US Army Finance Battalion where he engaged in drug dist ribution. He was eventually discharged from the Army for misconduct.According to open source reporting and multiple law enforcement reporting, soldiers, including gang members, are currently being taught urban warfare for combat in Iraq, including how to encounter hostile gunfire. The Defense Criminal Investigative Service reported in 2006 that gang members, particularly MS-13 members, are increasing their presence on or near US military installations. Even though the policy violates military recruiting regulations, US criminal courts have allowed gang members to enter the tafelgeschirr as an alternative to incarceration. Several instances wherein gang members have been recruited into the armed services while facing criminal charges or on probation or parole have been documented. In many instances, a gang member facing criminal charges may be provided the option to join the military or serve a jail sentence. Furthermore, some army recruiters have been known to conceal recruits gang a ffiliation to help boost their enlistment numbers. Increased Crime Gang membership in the armed forces can disrupt good order and discipline, increase criminal activity on and off military installations, and compromise installation security and force protection. Gang incidents involving active-duty personnel on or near US military bases nationwide include drive-by shootings, assaults, robberies, drug distribution, weapons violations, domestic disturbances, vandalism, extortion, and money laundering. Gangs have also been known to use active-duty service members to distribute their drugs. The Aurora Police Department reports that in July 2006 a Marine reservist and Maniac Latin Disciple gang member who had served in Iraq was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of three teenagers in Aurora, Illinois.According to FBI investigative data, in April 2006 a Blood member and active duty soldier at Fort Lewis allegedly robbed a bowling alley on base and is a suspect in a home in vasion robbery in Olympia, Washington. In January 2005 a Fort Hood soldier and Gangster Disciple leader was convicted of two aggravated robberies in Killeen, Texas.According to open-source reporting, he allegedly directed 30 to 40 Fort Hood Gangster Disciple members to commit illegal activities including drug dealing, identity theft, and armed robberies. Dangerous Situation Military-trained gang members also present an emerging threat to law enforcement officers patrolling the streets of US cities. Both current and former gang-affiliated soldiers transfer their acquired military training and knowledge back to the community and employ them against law enforcement officers, who are typically not trained to engage gangsters with military expertise. Gang members in the military are commonly assigned to military support units where they have access to weapons and explosives. Military personnel may steal items by improperly documenting supply orders or by falsifying paperwork. Law en forcement officials throughout the United States have recovered military-issued weapons and explosives such as machine guns and grenades fromcriminals and gang members while conducting search warrants and routine traffic stops. In June 2006 an incarcerated US Army soldier and active gang member identified 60 to 70 gang-affiliated military personnel in his unit allegedly involved in the theft and sale of military equipment and weapons. The soldier reported that many of the military personnel in charge of ammunition and grenade distribution are sergeants who are active gang members.A May 2006 interview with a former Marine and Gangster Disciple member incarcerated in Colorado detailed how easily soldiers many of whom were gang members stole military weapons and equipment and used them on the streets of US cities or sold them to civilian gang members. In December 2005 a National Guard soldier allegedly smuggled several machine guns back from Iraq and sold them to a gun dealer in Ge orgia, according to open-source information. In a May 2006 interview with the Colorado Department of Corrections, an incarcerated Gangster Disciple member and former Marine discussed the advantages of military training and how it assists gang members in bank robberies, home invasions, and confrontations with police.A 2006 news interview revealed that a Marine, who was a King Cobra member, stationed at MCAS Camp Pendleton, taught members of his gang how to engage in military-style ambushes and how to position themselves for tactical advantage. He further admitted that he joined the Marines to learn how to shoot guns. Threat to Dependents Gang members commonly target dependent children of military personnel for recruitment. Military children are considered potential candidates for gang membership because the transient nature of their families often makes them feel isolated, vulnerable, and in need of companionship. Dependents of service members may be involved in drug distribution and assaults both on and off of military bases. Lax security at open installations may facilitate recruitment by allowing civilian gang members to access the base and interact with military personnel and their children. Fort Bragg officials report that a number of violent instances occurring on post often involve gang members and transpire at on-post nightclubs. In May 2005 the Fort Bragg Provost Marshall (PM) closed the Fort Bragg Fair early because of multiple fights prompted by youths flashing gang signs. The PM remarked that similar instances had also occurred at the prior years fair.A retired Special Forces soldier and President of the Hells Angels Fayetteville, North Carolina, chapter regularly visitsFort Bragg. US Department of Defense(DoD) youth program staff have acknowledged that military children are heavily influenced by gangs. However, many military spokespersons have dismissed these children as wannabe gang members.According to the Office of National Drug Control Polic y, military facilities in the continental United States, as well as overseas military facilities, have all experienced gang activity committed by dependents of service members. Getting in the Military Gang members have been known to enlist in the military by failing to report past criminal convictions or by using fraudulent documents. Some applicants enter the criminal justice system as juveniles and their criminal records are sealed and unavailable to recruiters performing criminal background investigations. Many military recruiters are not properly trained to recognize gang affiliation and unknowingly recruit gang members, particularly if the applicant has no criminal record or visible tattoos. In August 2006 a Latin King member from Milwaukee joined the Marines while under federal indictment for racketeering. The recruiter reported that despite the gang members indictment, he was still eligible formilitary servicebecause he had not yet been convicted. He was, however, ultimat ely denied enlistment from service before reporting for duty.In 2006 an MS-13 member stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington reported that he and several other MS-13 members joined the military after their cliques leader was incarcerated. The soldier claimed that he was candid about his gang membership when recruited. In 2005 a Latin King member was allegedly recruited into the Army at a Brooklyn, New York, courthouse while awaiting trial for assaulting a New York police officer with a razor. He was reportedly instructed by the recruiter to conceal his gang affiliation. In 2005 a California probation officer reported that they were lobbied by Army recruiters to support early probation terminations for gang-affiliated probationers to facilitate their military recruitment. The FBI report concludes that while allowing gang members to serve in the military may temporarily increase recruiting numbers, US communities may ultimately have to contend with disruption and violence resulting from mi litary-trained gang members on the streets of US cities. Furthermore, most gang members have been pre-indoctrinated into the gang lifestyle and maintain an allegiance to their gang. This could ultimately jeopardize the safety of other military members and impede gang-affiliated soldiers ability to act in the best interest of their country. Why the Army Disagrees In sharp contrast to the FBI report, an Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID),Gang Activity Threat Assessment for FY 2006, calls the threat of gang activity in the Army low. Their report concludes Overall, the assessment of the threat of gang activity in the Army is considered low. There are indicators that gangs remain active in some military communities. During FY 2006, the CID initiated 16 gang investigations and reported 44 gang-related incidents which occurred on Army installations or in Army communities.Reports indicated there is a small number of Soldiers involved in gangs or gang-related activity. However, the re has been an increase in violent gang-related investigations in FY06. Gang-related violence in FY06 resulted in the loss of life of one US Army Soldier. The majority of subjects in gang-related investigations are junior enlisted (E-1-E-4) and/or youthful civilian dependent family members. During the period of October 2003 to September 2006, a total of 35 CID investigations were identified as felony crimes with gang-related activity There have been no Senior NCOs or Officers identified in any gang-related incidents or investigations.Military communities continue to be a more stable, secure and lawful environment than their civilian counterparts, especially given recent access control and other security enhancements. Much of the gun growth across the US can be attributed to the influence of the gang subculture rather than actual gang migration. Many communities are experiencing an emulation of nationally recognized gangs.Forming multi-agency task forces and joint community groups is an effective way to combat the problem. However, decreases in funding and staffing to many task forces have created new challenges for civilian communities. Limitations on recourses for authorized spaces, especially criminal intelligence spaces, have had a similar effect on CIDs ability to be proactive in this area.

Keeping Employees Working For You - Spark Hire
Keeping Employees Working For You - Spark HireSometimes you have an employee that is just not showing as much promise as they did during their interview and you have to let them go. While unpleasant, this is a necessary part of the job to keep the company streamlined. On the other hand, you dont want the people who are exceeding expectations to leave because theyre unhappy, which would be the opposite of streamlining. So what do you do to keep them happy? There was a study donethat shows that even more so than money and benefits employees are more likely to stay on if they find joy and purpose in their work. Unfortunately, these are things you cant manufacture or accomplish without completely changing the company so the most you can do is improve work conditions as well as perks and benefits.By making the office a home away from home for your employees you are far more likely to retain your top guns. No one likes to be miserable and that usually leads to finding new work in the employ ment game, and if someone is truly unhappy that annual 3% raiseisntgoing to cut it. You can take steps to improving workspace quality within the office with little things such as a snack machine, a recreation room (if you can afford it), and just doing what you can to make it a laid back environment.Even more important is to make the employees feel like theyarentshackled to anything. Cut back on restraints, such as blocking internet or policing lunch breaks the more someone is being watched the less they feel like theyre at home. Making employees feel like theyarentbeing babysat is the easiest way to increase employee retention. Now if you think the most important part of employee retention is keeping the best workers then youd be wrong. While you need to keep the few key players to stay with you, you need the middle of the pack to stick around, too. Thats why when turnover season comes around make sure you have benefits and regulations in place that will benefit all employees to som e extent. The moral here? If you want to increase employee retention you have to reach out to your middle workers as much as the higher performance employees because while your top dogs might be the idea makers, there is nothing they can do if theres no one there to execute their plans. How do you keep employees working for you? How To Satiate Demand for More College Grads
How To Satiate Demand for More College Grads How To Satiate Demand for More College Grads Overall, the report (PDF) said, degrees in business, engineering, computer/information science, sciences, and communications disciplines are going to be most in demand by employers. Now the employers just have to find the soon-to-be-minted college graduates to hire.Texas AM offers some strong advice that can be helpful to both on-campus recruiters and prospective graduates looking for work. On its career center website, the university says, The key to successful recruiting is building and maintaining a presence on campus. Organizations who enjoy the most success are those who have name recognition and a positive image with students. In order to attain a higher level of campus presence, employers are encouraged to use an integrated approach involving a variety of activities. The universitys first suggestion is participation in on-campus career fairs. OK, so not all of the advice is revolutionary but its good to cover the basics. When Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed banks, he answered, Because thats where the money is. Potential employees are going to be at career fairs.Avail yourself of any job posting sites universities and colleges have to offer. Theyre a common way for prospective grads and recent alum to see what you have to offer.Use any online-recruitment tools that universities and colleges have to offer. The career centers will provide you spots for on-campus einstellungsgesprchs.Host an information session on campus. Its good marketing for getting your brand in front of the students. As Texas AM points out, it allows businesses to explaintheir organizations to students, rather than use interview time for this purpose. Othersuse these sessions to observe and interact with interview candidates in a less structuredenvironment. This wont help you during spring recruitment drives, but it does lay the foundation for future hiring. The university recommends providin g students with learning opportunities while exposing them to your organization by offering internship, cooperative education, or externship opportunities. Test out profil hires before graduation and enhance your staffing resources. As the university points out, once a student has gone through your organization as an intern, he or she becomes a brand ambassador for you on campus.Texas AM says companies can also have success by volunteering on campus. Its career center programs, for example, include mock interviews, the company visit, career profiling, and interview techniques. Again, as with the information sessions, it helps recruiters be seen in a more informal light outside of the formal interview and it also helps students get to know your brand as being community minded and informed because of your expert presence on topics important to them.Of course, money goes a long way in your recruiting efforts, too. Texas AM says (and its hardly unique among institutions of higher learni ng), Generous contributions from employer partners have enabled The Career Center to expand services and resources to better serve students and employers. As a result of their highly visible contributions, employers have enjoyed a competitive advantage through enhanced publicity and the opportunity to work directly with staff. All of the above advice works for students, too. Take part when a company you are interested in comes to campus and youll get noticed by company recruiters in a less formal setting. Career center fairs, sessions on mock interviews and career profiling, as well as interview techniques are all forms of networking that will be valuable tools to develop further along in your career.

What might explain the current unhappiness epidemic
What might explain the current unhappiness epidemicWhat might explain the current unhappiness epidemicWed all like to be a little happier. The problem is that much of what determines happiness is outside of our control. Some of us are genetically predisposed to landsee the world through rose-colored glasses, while others have a generally negative outlook. Bad things happen, to us and in the world. People can be unkind, and jobs can be tedious. But we do have some control over how we spend our leisure time. Thats one reason why its worth asking which leisure time activities are linked to happiness, and which arent. In a new analysis of 1 million U.S. teens, my co-authors and I looked at how teens were spending their free time and which activities correlated with happiness, and which didnt. We wanted to see if changes in the way teens spend their free time might partially explain a startling drop in teens happiness after 2012 and perhaps the decline in adults happiness since 2000 as well. A possible culprit emergesIn our study, we analyzed data from a nationally representative survey of eighth-, 10th- and 12th-graders thats been conducted annually since 1991.Every year, teens are asked about their general happiness, in addition to how they spend their time. We found that teens who spent mora time seeing their friends in person, exercising, playing sports, attending religious services, reading or even doing homework were happier. However, teens who spent mora time on the internet, playing computer games, on social media, texting, using video chat or watching TV were less happy. In other words, every activity that didnt involve a screen was linked to more happiness, and every activity that involved a screen was linked to less happiness. The differences were considerable Teens who spent more than five hours a day online were twice as likely to be unhappy as those who spent less than an hour a day.Of course, it might be that unhappy people seek out screen activities. Howe ver, a growing number of studies show that most of the causation goes from screen use to unhappiness, not the other way around. In one experiment, people who were randomly assigned to give up Facebook for a week ended that time happier, less lonely and less depressed than those who continued to use Facebook. In another study, young adults required to give up Facebook for their jobs were happier than those who kept their accounts. In addition, several longitudinal studies show that screen time leads to unhappiness but unhappiness doesnt lead to more screen time.If you wanted to give advice based on this research, it would be very simple Put down your phone or tablet and go do something just about anything else. Its not just teensThese links between happiness and time use are worrying news, as the current generation of teens (whom I call iGen in my book of the same name) spends more time with screens than any previous generation. Time spent online doubled between 2006 and 2016, and 82 percent of 12th-graders now use social media every day (up from 51 percent in 2008).Sure enough, teens happiness suddenly plummeted after 2012 (the year when the majority of Americans owned smartphones). So did teens self-esteem and their satisfaction with their lives, especially their satisfaction with their friends, the amount of fun they were having, and their lives as a whole. These declines in well-being mirror other studies finding sharp increases in mental health issues among iGen, including in depressive symptoms, major depression, self-harm and suicide. Especially compared to the optimistic and almost relentlessly positive millennials, iGen is markedly less self-assured, and more are depressed.A similar trend might be occurring for adults My co-authors and I previously found that adults over age 30 were less happy than they were 15 years ago, and that adults were having sex less frequently. There may be many reasons for these trends, but adults are also spending more time with screens than they used to. That might mean less face-to-face time with other people, including with their sexual partners. The result less sex and less happiness.Although both teen and adult happiness dropped during the years of high unemployment amid the Great Recession (2008-2010), happiness didnt rebound in the years after 2012 when the economy was doing progressively better. Instead, happiness continued to decline as the economy improved, making it unlikely that economic cycles were to blame for lower happiness after 2012.Growing income inequality could play a role, especially for adults. But if so, one would expect that happiness would have been dropping continuously since the 1980s, when income inequality began to grow. Instead, happiness began to decline around 2000 for adults and around 2012 for teens. Nevertheless, its possible that concerns about the job market and income inequality reached a tipping point in the early 2000s.Somewhat surprisingly, we found that teens who didnt use digital media at all were actually a little less happy than those who used digital media a little bit (less than an hour a day). Happiness was then steadily lower with more hours of use. Thus, the happiest teens were those who used digital media, but for a limited amount of time. The answer, then, is not to give up technology entirely. Instead, the solution is a familiar adage everything in moderation. Use your phone for all the cool things its good for. And then set it down and go do something else. You might be happier for it.Jean Twenge, Professor of Psychology, San Diego State UniversityThis article is republished from The Conversation under a Creative Commons license.
